UNANDERRA PUBLIC Principal's Message SEMESTER 1 REPORTS On Monday of Week 10, your child’s Semester 1 report will be sent home. These reports reflect the culmination of a considerable amount of work by both students and their teachers (both classroom and special programs). Our schools’ procedures for reporting to parents are always based on NSW DoE policy and are developed using a variety of appropriate assessments. This assessment information is collected and recorded to guide ongoing teaching and learning and to monitor and evaluate student progress. Teachers also plan assessment strategies when developing teaching programs and make additional assessment judgements in the course of teaching and learning. Please spend time discussing your child’s report with them and focus on what they have achieved and where to next in the exciting journey of formal learning they are undertaking. If you would like to discuss your child’s report further, please contact the classroom teacher to organise a mutually convenient time to meet FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM We are all proud to be a part of the Unanderra Public School community and as such expect that each of our students (K-6) to wear their uniform with great pride. As the weather becomes cooler I understand that additional clothing may need to be worn. Parents/carers are reminded that only school jumpers are to be worn each day to school and long colourful socks or colourful jumpers are not permitted. Fridays are the only day that school representative jumpers can be worn. School hats need to worn by all students and as such these hats need to appropriate in colour and condition. If you notice that your child’s hat is considerably worn and faded please replace it. Hats can be purchased for $11 from our school administration office. UPS are always willing to discreetly support families with school uniforms and hats where necessary. Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the school for further information. Please also note that all children who are representing UPS such as attending high school master classes etc are expected to wear their full school uniform. KINDERGARTEN 2022 ENROLMENT The Department of Education has released a new enrolment procedure, meaning that families can now enrol their child at any time. Once enrolled, it is my understanding that your child will then qualify for Active Kids and Creative Kids vouchers. Please note that when you complete the online enrolment application, you will receive an email stating that the school will call you to book an appointment for you to come in with your required paperwork. Please ignore this email, it is automatically generated by the system. Once you have all of your documentation, simply drop in and we will complete the process with you. This work was planned and negotiated in 2019/20. It is anticipated to be finished in the next few weeks. New Covered Area We have been advised that work will begin during the Christmas holiday break, on the cola area where the handball court is which in between the administration block and the stage two and three classrooms. A super large roof will be built to provide shade and protection from the weather elements. We have been assured that it will be visually appealing and that it will consider the current roof lines and allow for some natural lighting. This will require the two large trees in this cola area to be removed. These trees are currently of concern as their root systems are lifting the concrete and causing ongoing trip hazards. The school will be sure to plant two trees in another part of the school as a replacement. STAFF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING The staff are always upskilling themselves in order to further advance their expertise and knowledge as educators and administration staff. They are currently focusing on increasing their knowledge and practice around the teaching of reading, writing and numeracy and building strategies in resilience and emotional regulation using the zones of regulation with our children. Each strategic direction is dedicated to support the growth and development of the whole child social, emotionally and academically in partnership with parents/carers and the school community. SD 1: Student Growth and Attainment- In order to drive student growth and performance in literacy and numeracy we will establish a culture strongly focused on learning, the building of educational aspiration and ongoing performance improvement throughout the school community so that students are knowledgeable, confident and engaged learners. Staff in this team are participating in a series of face to face professional learning sessions led by the Literacy and Numeracy advisors from Warilla strategic Delivery throughout the next few months. SD 2: Wellbeing, Inclusion and belonging- To maximise each individual sense of wellbeing, inclusion and belonging we will shape a school community centred around student choice, leadership and social and emotional learning. This will establish a culture focused on positive relationships that support and enhance all the domains of wellbeing. Staff in this team have been reviewing our school playground activities and introduced initiatives such as social skills programs and playground games and clubs. SD 3: Quality Systems and Practices – To establish a self-sustaining and self-improving high performing culture where quality systems and explicit processes so that teacher practice is enhanced and supported to ultimately improve student outcomes. Staff in this team have been generating staff surveys, reviewing identified school procedures and have been supported in providing feedback on the draft syllabus documents through the 'Have your say' period. END AND START OF TERM DATES Just a friendly reminder that term two concludes on Friday 25 June, 2021 and students are expected to return to school on Tuesday 13 July 2021. Please remember that Monday 12 July is a staff professional learning day as this is a pupil free day. Finally, my thanks are always extended to the remarkable work done by our school staff and P & C throughout this term and I wish all of our students a safe and restful school holiday break. Kind Regards, Anissa Rajendra P & C MeetingThe next P & C meeting will be held of the 2nd of August 2021. This term, 1/2N have been improving their recount writing skills. We have had many shared experiences to write about including the Easter Hat Parade, school holidays, our camping day and Reconciliation Week. Our class are all really proud of our ability to include a variety of time connectives to indicate the order of events, as well as drawing from our 'vocabulary suitcase' to make our writing even more engaging for the reader. As part of Reconciliation Week, KS looked at a range of learning activities to develop their own understanding of reconciliation, the traditional owners of our school land, the Dharawal people, as well as Indigenous games and art. Every morning in KS we introduce our day by completing morning routine in which we focus on a topic and key words. During Reconciliation Week, we learnt about astrology and the Brewarrina Fish Traps. We had a go at rock painting using dot painting techniques and we learnt an Indigenous running game which tied in with our Athletics Carnival practice. The competition was impressive with all students giving their best, competing in a sportsmanlike manner and having a great deal of fun too! A very big thank you to the wonderful and very capable staff at Unanderra Public School, as well as our awesome parent helpers who gave their time and helped the day run so smoothly. Also, thank you once again to the Unanderra Public School P&C for subsidising the cost of the carnival. It was a great day to be a part of. Thanks again!
