UNANDERRA PUBLIC Principals MessageDear Parents/Carers, We have nearly reached the middle of term one 2021 already with so many great things achieved. We have welcomed a number of new families to our school including the many kindergarten children and their families who have joined our wonderful school community. What a beautiful morning we had on Thursday sharing a bacon and egg roll while developing personal learning goals and discussing positive pathways to learning with our Aboriginal children and their families. A big thank you to Mrs Brennan, Mrs Lawler and the team of people working behind the scenes to cook and prepare the great food that was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Mr Thomas and Mr Wayne Venables for overseeing and organising the BBQ and to our awesome teachers who also helped to cook and prepare this delicious breakfast. It was very well attended by many families and we look forward to joining with our Aboriginal community members and their children on many more occasions throughout the year ahead. Maintaining COVID safe practices. Although we have had the opportunity to enjoy a number of small events where parents/carers are able to come on site I ask everyone to continue to be mindful of following all COVID safe guidelines including social distancing outside of the school gates during afternoon pick up. I understand that this can at times be challenging but all parents/carers and visitors collecting children from the front gates are reminded to follow the 1.5 metre social distancing rules while waiting. Once children have been collected parents/carers and visitors are reminded to leave promptly rather than mingling. Correct hand sanitiser use and frequent hand washing is encouraged and modelled by our staff and we thank all of our families who continue to follow these practices at home too. Scripture begins and Contact Details Updated Scripture will begin next week. Please ensure that your child’s details are up to date and that any forms needing to be returned are done so as soon as possible. A big thank you to Mrs Jackson for organising the scripture timetable. Mrs Jackson is the contact teacher for 2021 scripture organisation. Life Education It’s time for another exciting visit from our friend Healthy Harold. The Life Education van will visit Unanderra Public School from Tuesday 23 February to Wednesday 3 March. We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity again for our students at no cost. Our wonderful and very generous P &C originally offered to cover the entire costs of this program for all of our students however we have been most recently advised that Dendrobium will now be covering these costs. The Life Education team have developed a program aligned to the NSW Syllabus. A brief overview of the stage based material has been shared in the note home. As a support to the program, a number of Harold items can be purchased online at www.lifeeducation.org.au All funds raised through the sale of merchandise help to keep this valuable resource in schools. P &C AGM The next P &C meeting will be the AGM. All new and more familiar parents/carers and school community members are welcome to attend. This will be in the school hall please ensure that you have advised Jodien Mortlock [email protected] of your anticipated attendance. Expression of Interest for High School 2022 Expressions of Interest have been sent out to all year six students. Just a friendly reminder that these completed forms are due back to our school office by no later than 19 March 2021. This includes both expressions of interest for local and selective high schools. Wishing everyone a fabulous fortnight ahead. Kind Regards, Anissa Rajendra In 1/2N we have started our integrated unit ‘Me and My School’ by looking at the connection between ourselves, our class and our school. We have been learning about the significance of a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country while thinking about the Dharawal land we learn and play on every day. 1/2N enjoyed being able to think about the natural landmarks around our school while learning in the Yarning Circle space. We listened for the sounds of native animals and observed nature before discussing our gratitude for the natural world around us. 1/2N have jointly constructed our class Acknowledgement of Country with some accompanying actions which we wish to read together every week.
