Representative Sports UpdateCONGRATULATIONS! This term UPS students in Stage 3 have had the opportunity to try out for a range of representative sports as part of the South Wollongong district and South Coast region sports programs run by the NSW School Sports Unit. To represent your school at this level is a great achievement. Students who make the teams show great skill, talent and sportsmanship in their chosen sport. As a school we wish to congratulate them proudly on representing the South Coast region, South Wollongong district and Unanderra Public School. A massive congratulations goes to the following students for making the South Coast Regional teams in their sport: These students will be competing in NSW State PSSA carnivals later in the year. We look forward to watching their progress and wish them luck in the upcoming competitions. Mrs Alewood PSSA sport coordinator On Friday 26th March, UPS celebrated Harmony Day by wearing orange and by doing different activities that looked at different cultures and countries. Each student will receive a UPS Harmony Passport that they will take with them during the rotations and have “stamped” by the teacher with the flag of their chosen country. Fathering ProjectThis week the UPS Fathering Project hosted an 'Afternoon in the Sun' sports afternoon for all students and their father figures. With beautiful weather and a host of sports activities to choose from parents and students came in droves finding a nice patch of grass to base themselves before heading out to an activity. Students and fathers spread themselves out choosing games such as soccer softball, parachute play, cricket and touch to name a few. All in all, a fantastic afternoon was had with everyone enjoying games, sunshine and great company. A big thank you to our parent helpers. Events like this are fantastic but require support to run. Fathering ChannelRaising Daughters and the Significance of a Father- This week Dr Bruce Robinson discusses the significance of a father daughter relationship and the important role it plays in her life, now and in the future. The bond between a father and daughter is special and needs to be nurtured. Naturally, you may find it easier to bond with your son and may be unsure how to connect with your daughter. However, it’s important to find common ground and ways to build a relationship and engage from a young age, through to adulthood. Fathering and raising your daughter will come with many fulfilling but also challenging moments. As a Dad, your role will change as your daughter gets older. What starts as protecting them physically and emotionally as a little girl, turns into being a father figure who she can come to for advice, a listening ear and shoulder to cry on, but most importantly, to show her how she should be treated by a man. Three Key Factors in Raising Daughters
Remember, daughters need their dads just like sons do. Take your daughter out on a dad date, spend time with her, go on a picnic, do things together that she enjoys. Don’t underestimate how important you are in the future of your daughter’s life. Focus on raising daughters, not just sons. Stage 3 Digital Citizenship in the iLibrary with Ms Currently, in the iLibrary, Stage 3 students are building their digital citizenship muscles as they interact with the digital role playing game 'The Lost Summer'. Players are developing digital intelligence skills such as critical thinking, empathy, resilience, respect and responsibility as they role play five different scenarios Students are required to use their digital intelligence to help their characters face difficult situations online in a positive way. Based in a futuristic city, The Lost Summer enables learners to rehearse online safety scenarios and challenges in a safe environment, building digital resilience and an understanding of respectful relationships. Check out some of our Stage 3 students engaged in this great online learning program in our fabulous computer lab. They’re all volunteer teachers with Primary Ethics. Find out how you could be one too. Ethics teachers
Primary Ethics currently has 2 volunteers running ethics classes for students at Unanderra Public School as an option to non-scripture activities on Tuesdays. We need more parents/ grandparents/carers to volunteer as ethics teachers so that we can offer classes to all students who have selected this option in 2021. For more information or to apply online visit primaryethics.com.au or email UPS Primary Ethics Coordinator – Joanne Egan [email protected]
